Sildenafil, or what is popularly known as the brand name Viagra, is a drug classified as phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. This drug is primarily used to treat patients with erectile dysfunction or those who are having difficulty in maintaining an erection. This drug works by increasing the flow of blood towards the penis which will then aid in keeping the erection.

Another use of Sildenafil that is not as popular as its use for ED, is its benefit for those suffering from Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). People with PAH experiences tiredness, dizziness, and shortness of breath because there is an elevated blood pressure in the vessels transporting blood to the lungs. With the help of sildenafil, the blood vessels in the lungs relaxes and widens, causing the blood to flow more efficiently. People with PAH who would prefer to exercise regularly to improve their health may do so with the assistance of this medication.

Hi coleevans! Yes, it’s okay to take it for elevated blood pressure. This medication is actually used for treating chest pain, high blood pressure and heart attack. However, if you have persistent high blood pressure, it would be best to consult with your doctor so you will be provided with a medication regimen that could help you manage your hypertension.

Just wondering how long it takes for lisinopril to kick in after I start taking it? I was diagnosed with hypertension and this medication was prescribed to me by my doctor. I am looking forward to going back to work but was advised by my boss that I would have to do my physical exam before reporting to work to make sure I am fit to work. Would I have to wait long for my blood pressure to go down?
