Levocetirizine is in a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. It is used to treat symptoms of year-round (perennial) allergies in adults and children who are at least 6 months old. It is also used to treat symptoms of seasonal allergies in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. It is also used to treat itching and swelling caused by chronic urticaria (hives) in adults and children who are at least 6 months old.

Levocetirizine is considered a non-sedating antihistamine. However, it may still cause drowsiness to some so it is usually advised to be taken at night. The drowsiness often occurs during the first few hours after taking the drug so taking it at bedtime could also help you sleep easier.
